Cutting Board Care

Caring for your cutting board

It’s recommended that you wipe the cutting board down with water (soapy, if required), and dry it off completely.   I do not recommend submerging your cutting board in water, and never put it in a dishwasher.  If you do, you’ll be the owner of a collection of scrap wood pieces.

Over time, you’ll want to apply my Beeswax Oil conditioner that you can buy on my website.   You can never over condition your cutting board. Apply a little Beeswax Oil conditioner to the wood, let it dry and buff the finish.  Building a waxy finish on the cutting board is optimal.   The Beeswax Oil conditioner will also fill any scarring from knife cuts and will help protect and restore the wood finish.

If your board starts to look dry in areas, you can purchase pure mineral oil from the drug store and apply that directly to the board and let sit overnight.  The oil will sink into the areas that are dry.  Wipe the remaining oil off the board, and you’ll have a reconditioned board again.

NOTE: From my experience, I do not recommend using cooking oil (olive, vegetable, etc.).   I have found that cooking oil makes your board turn yellow and research has indicated that it will get rancid over time.  Stick to pure mineral oil and the Beeswax Oil conditioner that I have included.
